Charlotte North Carolina newcomers, Charlotte growth

Charlotte North Carolina is one of the fastest growing cities in one of the fastest growing states in the US. The origins of the newcomers is probably no surprise to those watching license plates in the Queen City. I found an article from the September 24, 2006 Charlotte Observer which reports data from the American Community Survey. The survey indicates that 80,000 people moved to the Charlotte region from outside the carolinas in a year spanning 2004 – 2005.

Percentage of newcomers by area:

  • 38 % South
  • 28 % Northeast
  • 15 % Outside US
  • 10 % Midwest
  • 08 % West

Top 10 states outside carolinas:

  •  1 New York
  •  2 Florida
  •  3 Virginia
  •  4 Georgia
  •  5 Texas
  •  6 Ohio
  •  7 New Jersey
  •  8 California
  •  9 Maryland
  • 10 Alabama
